What are the future plans for this website?

Short term future plans for the website include (not necessarily in chronological order)

1) Adding many more photos and videos to the gallery
2) Adding details of birding sites in and around Nagpur city
3) Adding a better search facility with more details on each of the birds
4) Adding Annotated and Interactive Maps

Long term plans largely depend on community participation in the website...

There are so many birds with no pictures - how can I see pictures of those birds?

Bird photography is time consuming and expensive - While we do aim to have as many birds as possible, it will take a long time to get many more birds - However, we have linked every Bird to its corresponding page on the Oriental Bird Images website - just click on the "See here" link present after Oriental Bird Images ref: to go to the corresponding bird photos.

Copying and Contributing

I am a birdwatcher from Nagpur - how can I help this site?

Thanks - we need all the help from every quarter we can get. You can help in several ways:

1) Adding to the birds list - if you see any thing missing, let us know.
2) Adding to the bird photographs - if you have any pictures that you have taken and would like to display on this site, let us know. It does not matter if another picture of the same bird is already on the site.

Send a mail to webmistress@nagpurbirds.org for more information

You have lots of data on this site. Can I get a copy of that data?

NO! You cannot get a copy of our database. You can, however, download an annotated checklist of the birds of Nagpur from the site.

I want to use a picture from your site for XYZ purpose - can I?

All the pictures on the site are copyright of the original photographers, and it would be illegal to use them without their permission. That said, several photographers on the site have released the pictures under a Creative Commons license. In short - ask the original photographer.

Are there any guidelines for photographers to submit photos OR which kind of photos are welcome?

Yes, there are a few simple guidelines which we have adapted from the Oriental Bird Images website - These will help us in keeping the administration of the site streamlined.

The aim is to obtain and upload good quality photos of birds found in the city of Nagpur and immediate vicinity to the image gallery of the website. If there are no photos of a particular species on the site, poorer quality images may be added pending better ones becoming available.

If there are already images of a species on the website, further photos will only be uploaded if they add something new. E.g.
a) the new photo is of a different plumage such as winter, summer, male, female, juvenile, etc.
b) the new photo is from a different angle showing different aspects of the bird
c) the new photo better illustrates the typical jizz of a bird, or shows interesting behaviour
d) the new photo is simply better (in which case we may delete older photos)
e) the new photo was taken within the city of Nagpur, whereas the old one wasn't.

In some cases, where a photo is of particular interest, or the species is especially charismatic, we may upload further images anyway.

Details of where and when (exact date or month & year) a photograph was taken should be supplied. Any further information regarding plumage, subspecies, behaviour or circumstances in which the photo was taken may be included in the Database at the webmistress's discretion.

I am not from Nagpur, but you inspire me - how can I help you?

Thank you very much - You can help us by contributing pictures. It would be particularly helpful if the picture was taken in or around Nagpur. You can also help us by just going through the website and checking for any errors.

Perhaps the biggest help would be popularising the site by linking to http://nagpurbirds.org, and mentioning it in your blogs, magazines and mailing list.
